If you are already in the UK under Tier 1 General and have not already reached qualifying stay for ILR, you MUST take a note of this announcement. This is very important if you would not be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave To Remain in the UK by the time your current Leave To Remain under Tier 1 General expires.
Home Office will stop accepting Tier 1 General Extension Applications from 06/04/2015, which means that you must apply for extension before this date, even if your current visa expires later. We are publishing this blog post as an advance warning because you must meet the Earnings Requirements for the 12 months prior to tier 1 general extension application and you also must meet the Maintenance Fund Requirements. If you are currently under Tier 1 General, you should contact us immediately to ensure that you submit extension application in time.
If you are a non-EEA national living in the UK, under Tier 1 General scheme of Points Based Visas for the UK, this Home Office announcement affects you. Tier 1 General scheme closed for fresh applications from 06/04/2011. Now, the extensions will be closing from 06/04/2015 so if you would not have completed 5 years continuous stay in the UK by the time your current visa expires, you must submit your extension application before 05/04/2015. This means that you must meet the Tier 1 General Extension criteria when you submit your extension application.
