Tier 1 General Visas UK

Tier 1 General Visas UK replaced Old HSMP (Highly Skilled Migrant Programme)

NEW Tier 1 General Scheme for Highly Skilled Individuals under Points Based Immigration System for the UK.

Home Office announced New Points Based System for the Highly Skilled Workers and the same was implemented in the UK from 29 February 2008. So, if you were in the UK, the erstwhile HSMP scheme or Highly Skilled Migrant Programme was then replaced by Tier 1 (General) Scheme for the Highly Skilled Workers.

OLD HSMP before 05/11/2006

If you were under HSMP which was applied before 06/11/2006 you could extend your HSMP by submitting FLR Tier 1 (HSMP) application form, which you can still do if you have not qualified for ILR or settlement by now.

If you are in the UK under Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) and if you had applied after 06/11/2006, you were required to apply for Extension under the New Tier 1 (General) Scheme to complete the five year continuous stay required to make you eligible for the Indefinite Leave To Remain (ILR) or Permanent Resident status.

If you will not have completed 5 years qualified stay in the UK under Tier 1 General, you have the last chance to apply for final Extension under Tier 1 General, so please make sure that your extension application reaches Home Office before 05/04/2014. HSMP Services will be happy to help you with Tier 1 General Extension application

Important requirements for the Tier 1 General are as under:

  1. Score 75 or 80 points for Education, Earnings and Age depending upon when you first applied under Tier 1 General
  2. Score 10 points for Maintenance Fund Requirement
  3. Score 10 points for knowledge of English Language

Tier 1 General also allows you to sponsor your dependant family members i.e. spounse and children under 18 years of age, however you need to demonstrate that you have access to the maintenance funds to support their application. When you reach ILR stage, you can include your dependants at the same time, if they qualify. If they do not qualify, they will need to apply for extension as PBS Dependants till they complete the qualifying five years stay in the UK.
